Welcome to the G1MRA Yorkshire Group page.
Most Yorkshire Group members live and have a Yorkshire postcode address, however, the current secretary lives in north Derbyshire, and we do have many group members who live outside our operating area. Anyone wishing to join us either as a member or as a visitor will be assured of a friendly Yorkshire welcome.
We have a large number of tracks on which our members hold get-togethers throughout the region.
Our regular group meetings take place every first Tuesday throughout the year usually in Sheffield, and every second and fourth Sunday from April to October at various venues throughout the region. We also try to have a couple of evening meetings during the winter. Any visitors to the area, or prospective members should contact the YG secretary for more details – email@example.com – and he will happily supply you with our current meetings list.
The Yorkshire Group is one of the most pro-active G1MRA Groups. We hold our own exhibition – Gauge 1 North – each year at the Agriculture & Business Centre in Bakewell – usually in July. Up to date details can be found on our website www.gauge1north.org.uk – and you will also find out a bit more about our activities there. We have also developed a good working relationship with the National Railway Museum in York, where we have held two nine day exhibitions in the last two years. We will be there again as part of the Mallard 75 exhibition in July 2013. Again look at our website for more details. We also regularly support our NW neighbours at exhibitions they organise, at Manchester and Harrogate.
The Yorkshire Group has its own 36 foot long scenic exhibition track called Moordale, an end-to-end unit depicting a small terminus station somewhere in the Yorkshire- Derbyshire area. We regularly use it a small model railway shows on its own. We have adapted it to join to G1MRA’s showcase layout, Dobson Bridge, where it makes an excellent addition to spectator enjoyment. We are continually adding to it – recently the points have been electrified, and a new turntable extension has been added.
The group has its own electric locomotive – available for use by anyone in the group, and we also have a rake of BR Mk1 coaches. The YG holds a set of nine wagons and an electric diesel shunter on behalf of G1MRA. The latter are available to all G1MRA members for shows.
If you would like any more information about the Yorkshire Group, please don’t hesitate to contact the secretary. If you are visiting the area, we will be delighted to see you, and we can usually make a track available – weather permitting!
