The East Dorset and New Forest Group was formed in the late 1980’s with about 8 members running on Don Gardiner’s line. It has now expanded to 70 members running on 8 lines, one having no less than 5 individual running tracks. Our membership extends from Dorchester in the west to Southampton in the east.
Meetings are held throughout the year normally on the second and fourth Saturday in the month, In the event of adverse weather we are very fortunate in being able to use the 200ft indoor line at The South Coast Model Railway Club, the branch terminus, Croyde was described in Newsletter No. 234.
Whilst all methods of propulsion can be seen, there has been a steady growth in the use of radio controlled gas fired locomotives. Locomotives range from the usual commercial models to exquisitely hand built and much admired models, the same applies to both coach and goods rolling stock.
Being in a holiday area we do see visiting members from other parts of the country giving us even more variety. We also have available a number of utube links to various past events, please contact Peter Armstrong for further information about our group.
