1st March 2023 - 5th March 2023 New US Small Scale Live Steam Meet
@ state transportation museum in Spencer, NC
A new small scale live steam meet is to be held at the state transportation museum in Spencer, NC. It will be a blend of the style and social aspect of Diamondhead and The Summer Steamup, with a little more upscale event and accommodations.  It will be an event open to the general public hosted by the museum. For information about the museum go to: To register : The museum will have train rides on Saturday and possibly motor car rides. There will be a private shop tour of the restoration facility TBD. Butane, alcohol, and coal are permitted to fire. As a state facility we need a license for consuming alcohol, and it is cost prohibitive for us so no beer or wine will be allowed on site. A barrier will be used to keep the public a safe distance from the layouts. Dates for the steamup are: March 1st thru 5th, 2023. Setup on the 1st and breakdown on the 5th.   Registration is $100.00 for the event. Go to for the registration form. All proceeds after expenses will be donated to the museum. We are still working out the final details but have 3 large 45mm gauge-one layouts with two main tracks con-firmed (10' plus radii) and 2 smaller dual-gauge (45mm and 32mm) layouts. There will be a swap area with just steamer access. More details will be announced as I plan it but expect light breakfast of pastries and the like on site with beverages of coffee, tea, water, and soft drinks to be available throughout the day. Lunch and dinner are on your own. I am working towards a dinner on Friday night in the facility of grilled burgers, hotdogs, and chicken. Initially, I was looking at catering but the varied cost and required people count will be tough for the 1st year. I am working to provide a decent lunch truck on site for lunches on Thursday through Saturday. The nearest airports are at Charlotte, NC or Greensboro, NC, both about an hour drive away. Restaurants are available in the area for lunches and dinners: The Smoke Pit, 509 Faith Road, Salisbury, NC 704-754-8336 Queso Salsa Mexican, 318 Salisbury Avenue, Spencer, NC 704-762-9779 Rogers Dogs, 111 5th Street, Spencer, NC 704-330-3243 Salty Caper Wood Fired Pizza, 115 South Lee Street, Salisbury, NC 704-633-1101 Sweet Meadow Café, 105 East Fischer Street, Salisbury, NC 704-637-8715 Hotels are nearby, though not on site, but are just minutes away. Organised by the North West Group of GIMRA, the show aims to exhibit a wide range of hobbies and hobby related activities, giving local and national societies and businesses a way of inspiring a new audience to take up their hobby or to see the hobby in a different way.  Visitors to the show can expect to see all types of displays, from virtual reality to physical engineering displays, that can work both as a hobby and also as a tool within the work place.  Other hobbies range from arts and crafts, including  lace making, and wood carving to lego building competition for the children, and of course learning about the preservation of heritage railways and footpaths, plus lots more .....

Model railways of course in Gauge 1 and Gauge 0, supported by the 0 Gauge Guild and other scales and gauges.
